High Power Semiconductors
High Power Semiconductors
There are various silicon power semiconductors (SCR’s), and even more variations of them. Traditionally diodes, Phase Control thyristors, Inverter Thyristors, High Voltage Thyristor Modules are the most common silicon power semiconductor devices.
Phase Control Thyristors
We provide one of the most comprehensive ranges of standard phase control thyristors in the industry. Devices with voltage ranges from 600V to 6500V are available; these devices are optimized to give low conduction losses and are primarily intended for applications with line frequencies up to 400Hz.
Features:
- Distributed Amplifying Gate Design
- Low Turn on losses
- Reduced Reverse Recovery charges
- Low Turn of time
- Narrow Vt band (All thyristors simultaneously switches on and off).
Â
Applications:
- Industrial DC drives
- Induction melting
- Marine/rail propulsion systems
- Wind power converters
- Electrochemical power supplies
- Soft starters
Inverter Thyristors
Fast switching thyristors have regenerative gate structure to ensure low switching losses and high di/dt performance in additional to pressure contact technology these devices offer lower reverse recovery charge values, low forward switching losses and high reliability.
Features:
- Distributed Amplifying Gate Design
- Low turn off time (≤ 10 µsec available)

Thyristor Switching Module (TSM) & Triggering cards (Zero Crossover/ Burst Firing)
AMPS offer Thyristor Switch Card which is specially designed for APFC (Automatic Power Factor Correction) applications to switch ON and OFF, 3 phase capacitor banks, based on the command from the APFC relay module. These cards are developed to trigger solid state switch or silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs) or thyristors. The gate/cathode triggering pulses are generated using zero cross over firing techniques. The two sets of gate / cathode pulses are galvanically isolated using the on card ferrite core pulse transformers.
Each card can simultaneously trigger 2 sets of back to back SCR+SCR modules or 2 sets of back to back SCR+ Diode modules to switch 3 phase capacitor banks. Triggering card accepts control signal in the form of relay contact or DC pulse from APFC relay unit. When command is ON, capacitors banks are connected to the power lines and when command is OFF capacitor banks are disconnected.
Â
Features:
- Single Phase I Two Phase I Three Phase Zero Crossover SCR Triggering Cards.
- Single Phase I Two Phase I Three Phase Zero Crossover Thyristor Switching Module up to 500 Kw
- Zero Crossover firing for transient and capacitive load.
- Rugged Ms Enclosures to suit Industrial Environment.
Thyristor Power regulators and Triggering Cards (Phase Angle Control)
AMPS offers SCR triggering card models, which are designed to fire or trigger back-to-back connected SCRs or SCR/ Diodes using a synchronised phase angle control technique. The card accepts analogue control signals of (0-5) V / (0-10) V or (4-20) mA and provides proportional gate/ cathode triggering pulses G1K1 + G2K2. These pulses can trigger back-to-back connected SCRs up to 1000Amps with gate current up to 300ma. The card also provides a built-in regulated 5VDC supply to connect an external potentiometer for manual control of the SCR firing. The on-board ramp-up and ramp-down settings allow for a gradual rise and fall of the voltage levels across the load.
Features:
- Designed to fire 25 Amps to 1000 Amps SCR-SCR/SCR-Diode modules of Proton-Electrotex, Semikron, IXYS, Infineon, etc.
- Suitable for both star or delta or rectifier load configurations.
- Suitable for single-phase, two-phase or three-phase Heaters, Transformers, DC rectifiers.
- Accepts (4-20) mA / (0-5) VDC / (0-10) VDC / Potentiometer control inputs.
- Soft start and stop for smooth control.
- Adjustable power and current limit.
- Suitable for half-wave, full-wave, or bridge rectifiers employing SCR-DIODE or SCR-SCR Bridge.
